Jeffrey Lurie, the Vet and "The Link"

Unless you have been living in a cave, everyone knows that this Sunday is the last regular season football game at the NFL's red-headed step child stadium, "The Vet". Veterns Stadium is the ONLY hometown stadium I have ever known and this Sunday could very well be the last football game thatI, or anyone else ever sees there. It may be the last tailgate party we have before taking that long walk to the Vet. It will be the last time we walk up the slippery outside ramps as we weave our way to our seats. It may be the last time we stand in the bathroom line for 25 minutes. It may be the last time we eat a green hot dog or drink a flat beer. It may be the last time we sing the Eagles fight song or hear the a$$hole chant ringing down from the 700 level. And it could very well be the last time you see someone peeing in the sink (that I might not miss too much). My point is The Vet is an ugly dump, and we all know it, but it is OUR home and we all love it!!!
We love the reputation it has and we love how opposing teams fear playing here. We love the fact that it is rat infested and that we have a court room in the basement. We take pride in our "home field advantage". And what are the Eagles and Jeffery Lurie doing to honor stadium? NOTHING. As an Eagles fan and season ticket holder, I want to see The Vet go out in style. I know that for many years the Eagles have done nothing but try to get out of The Vet and even threatened to leave Philly if they did not get a new stadium. Jeffery Lurie has hated the place since the day he took over and cannot wait until the last game is played there, but what about us, thefans? Why can't he throw us a bone and have some sort of tribute to the place we called home for the past 31 years? I don't need anything fancy or Vera Wang to design the uniforms for the last game, but think I speak for all Eagles fans, JUST DO SOMETHING JEFF! Show us that you care just a little bit about us, and not just our checks for the tickets or the SBL's. Show us that we are not just a couple of extra 0's in your checkbook.
Which brings me to my next point, Lincoln Financial Field, or "The Link". It has come to my attention that the first event to be held there in August is NOT an Eagles preseason game. It is going to be a major league soccer game. Yes you read right, a soccer game. After years and years of begging and empty threats from the Eagles brass to get a new football stadium, the first event being held there is a soccer game? That is a DISGRACE. How can we open our new football stadium by hosting a soccer game? The teams are not even from Philadelphia. When I heard that a soccer game was opening our new home, I was outraged. The only thing I can think of was that I guess the price was right for Mr. Lurie. I hope things are going good for you Jeff in your ivory tower while the rest of us can only look up and wonder what you are thinking?
